Impact of jury service?

I was very lucky...
I got called while I was still a permie, and had two wonderfully interesting weeks at the Old Bailey and away from boring old work.
It's a great experience, but obviously not if you're going to lose hundreds a day...Comment

The exclusions are primarily those
1) Who are criminals
2) Who have a mental illness
3) Who are under 18 or over 70Last edited by Integrity; 20 June 2008, 11:38.Comment

Let off
I was called once, but wrote back to them saying that I had to be away from London on a business trip for a client (was true, as I was working only part UK-based then). They let me off, haven't heard back since (hope I never will). Bit of a farce they tell me, jurors are like BB contestants living and arguing with each other for days/weeks until the verdict is reached.Comment

2. Unfortunately at that time I was called I was not in the scheme. When putting in my claim for loss of earnings, I wrote the court a letter on MyCo's headed paper from myself, saying what I would have been earning if I hadn't been there.
They accepted that and paid me the maximum that they could, which was only about £56 a day.
I will never forget the look of horror on the court official's face when she saw the sums. It almost made it worth it.Comment

Just been called up for Jury duty selection in Edinbra but I'm working in Londonog... now what?
Does the unshaven look really work? Would have to happen at the busiest time of the year and not during the four months on the bench - typical."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

If you do/say/wear something deliberately designed to get you out of doing jury service, the judge can and will find you in contempt of court.
It is akin to lying to the courts. Under oath it would be perjury, but it is most definitely treating the court with contempt.
You would need independant evidence to back up your claim that your statements\dress\actions are an unavoidable part of your life and that there is nothing you can do.When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men.
