      same old ..

Unless Cameron screws up big time then New Lie are out (I reckon) then the Tories will put in the tough medecine, New Lie will find someone who is electable and it will see saw for a couple of elections.

Finally we will get the Tories in for a few terms until the market is sorted but Public services & the Civil service pay levels are screwed, then new lie will be back again just in time to stuff my pension.

Just about sums up modern Orstrilia, doesn't it - choosing to be led by a bloke called Kevin...

Then again, at least they had a say in it.

Winners of the election around 2014-15 will be LPUK. Abolition of the income tax has to be a winner. See also linky.

              Mailman is a kiwi.

They have had a Labour government which seems intent on copying their British counterparts since 1999.

So, nothing to get too smug over I think.

Although libertarianism is certainly a good thing to aim for where practical, the snag is libertarians who make it their be all and end all (enough to start a Libertarian party for example) tend to be just as idealistic and misguided in their way as communists with their mantra of equality of outcome for all.

Well nobody should live for the sake of politics, and the fundamental difference is that a libertarian believes government should be as small as is necessary to protect individual rights. How is this misguided compared to the broad swathe of individuals who can get passionate about the professional power-grabbing clubs called the Labour and Conservative Parties, or better yet the "where in the political spectrum should we best this decade" Liberal Democrats (the new socialists)? What do they believe in besides scare mongering and mind numbingly slinking from one opinion poll to the next?

Libertarians believe in a certain role for the state. However no political party engages in that debate on any honest level anymore - it is ad hoc kneejerk reactions to the braindead assumption that when something goes wrong the "guvmint" ought to "do something". Wouldn't politics be more honest if they were based on arguing about something substantial in terms of philosophy and approach, rather than who gets what in the advance auction of stolen goods called an election?

I'm too libertarian to join a party. I'm not sure that the idea does work. But I do think that the first question government should ask about any subject is "should we do anything about it at all?", not "what shall we do about it?".

The 2nd question seems to be firmly ensconced in all parties' world-view now, alas.

If you are very rich, you are better off under Labour.

So rather than hope the Tories get in, why not put all your effort into joining the very rich?
