Petrol prices in the US last year were average 41p a Litre and 86.11 in the UK.

My Mistake!

Petrol prices at the pump were $2.80 to $2.97 a US Gallon. In September

1 US gallon = 3.785 ltrs

$2.80 / 3.785 = 74 cents a Litre

74 cents a Litre = 37 pence a litre

UK Gallon = 4.546 litres

37 pence a litre X 4.546 = £1.68 a UK gallon
