Edit: And some substance (misuse), as follows...

    Data as of Jan-Mar 2006
    Offences per 1000, Liverpool: 45.7
Offences per 1000, England & Wales overall: 24.9
Offences per 1000, City of London: 217.4
Offences per 1000, Greater London: 31.8

So, higher than the national average, and higher than Greater London, but nothing compared to Central London (City).

The City of London's average daytime (workers + tourists + residents) population is aprox. 450,000.

Actual recorded crime figures were 7,973 for 06/07.

Having some trouble finding Merseyside's daytime population but according to wikipedia, Liverpool's Urban area is over 816,000.

    Actual recorded crime figures: 155,208.

Don't have to be great at maths to see Liverpool's crime rate is far, far higher than the City of London.

Greater London is the powerhouse of crime in the UK, don't get me wrong there mate.

Ah - now we're falling back on the next line of defence for statistics manipulation. I'll reference a quarterly figure for one year at one stage, and then inter-mingle a years worth of statistics elsewhere.....

"Offences per 1000, Greater London: 31.8" doesn't correspond to a powerhouse of crime, plus there's no analysis of visitors and commuters to Liverpool, either.

It's a Metropolitan area, referred to as London, with city 'status' (see below), with 2 cities within it. See 'scope' and 'status' on wikipedia - you'll find out more if you go to the Corporation of London's site and read a bit more around the topic.

The scope of London can, as the article states, be defined in a number of ways, and interestingly: "London's status as the capital of the UK has never been granted or confirmed officially—by statute or in written form".

        Surprising really...

... that anyone would argue about the crime-ridden state of Scouse City and its inhabitants. The Liverpool FC thug element is clearly involved in the Hilsborough disaster, the lessons of which were never learnt or rammed down their throats, hence contributing to another (Heysel) disaster a few years later. Even that was not enough to teach those idiots how to behave, as we saw last year when they again qualified for another CL Final in Athens where they ended up urinating in the streets, mugging their own for tickets to the game and blaming the local police for the ensuing chaos. Luckily they will be quickly disposed by one of Arsenal or Chelsea this year to avoid another potential long footbal ban. Amen.

Yes, thought you'd pick up on this. Earlier was citing quarterly, later found the 06/07 stats and latest posts have been (properly) based on these. References given above. Working stats for Merseyside not cited as couldn't find them and frankly can't be bothered - as explained above.

If you compare the actual figures against the population stats as given - these can be found on p131 of the Home Office report 06/07 btw - then they would indicate a higher rate of crime in the City of London than the Liverpool Urban Area, as stated.

              City of London

For the last time and to avoid confusion, the City of London covers just over the financial 'square mile' and has the best Police Force (not part of the Met) in the country. It has Specialist Units like Financial Crime and Serious Fraud that investigate mostly bank and related theft. Muggings or other crime is 1% of the total, making it one of the safest places for business to operate. Can you imagine if the 'City' was based in Liverpool? We would be working under protection, like the Green Zone in Baghdad!

You should try going across the river to Birkenhead. Makes Liverpool look good.

I suppose it was too tricky for you to read the thread, understand the timeline of events.

Heysel happened long before Hillsborough. Fact.

If you are going to try and blacken a set of fans, try and be accurate.

You are a muppet and an ill informed one at that.
