Updating my Skiing playlist

And tunes is a hard one - personally I have a specific snowboard playlist, full of hard charging songs to get me pumped. But I always leave one earpiece out.

Speaking of which, just got back from a week in Chamonix - oh man, perfection. Bucket loads of snow (MAjor league dumps), then lots of blue sky days and spring weather. Fantsatic, if a wee bit hot (I tok my full mid winter gear along, january and all - sweating like a hostage springs to mind)!

All this talk of snow sports is making me extremely jealous, I have a young baby and won't be going again for at least 3 years.

Anyone taken young kids to the slopes? I'm sure someone was telling me they can start at 3?

I'm also missing out this year, my son is 4 weeks old. Next year we are going to take him with us and use a creche, or take a nanny, we have other skiing friends with small babies so will be sharing the cost.

My friend teaches kids to ski in Andorra, foreign kids start about 3, but Brit kids usually start at 4.

go mark warner. Been every year since son was born turning 3 next month. There child care is execelent. been this year already so will have to wait until next year but I think I will get him on skis next time I go

The ski boots seem to start from size 9.5 so as long as they have big enough feet and are toilet trained some schools will take them under 3.

Having a baby shouldnt stop you from going.
Last year we took turns baby sitting.
This year we are going to a chalet with creche facilities.
Obviously its more expensive if you want creche facilities.

It helps to go with friends so that you dont have to ski alone all the time if you are rotating the baby sitting.

The only problems you may have is that some chalet rooms are too small for 2 adults and a baby.

The solution is to go faster than everyone else, that way you never have to worry about what's behind you, only what's in front... personally I have a specific snowboard ....

Are you only going off piste? On the prepared slopes, skiing is faster than snowboarding.

i find using a snowboard a lot more effiicient than using a small child but each to their own i suppose

I'm off to Chamonix tomorrow morning for the week. I'm checking the snow reports on a daily basis now. Was it very busy?

Are you only going off piste? On the prepared slopes, skiing is faster than snowboarding.

Both, and technically you're right - skier should always beat a boarder on piste. But I go pretty hard - I been doing it a long time, so in reality there aren't too many people at all going down faster than me.

On the kids thing, we took a 6 month old along last year - went to St Anton, and there were plenty of creche options - Austria generally is good like that. Worth checking in advance (Crystal we went with).

For children to ski in ski school the only rule as understand it is that they're out of nappies.
