I think that's where people disagree then.

I love all that diversity - I embrace the fact that we live in a multi cultural country. It's colourful, and it's brilliant.

Absolutely not, and they never will be - those who choose not to be. However, those which embrace diversity and Britishness (not at the total expense of their own beliefs/history/etc), as we embrace diversity and multiculturalism, are totally british.

          It is entirely their choice.

Ah right - they're not British unless they embrace Britishness?! Now I get it.

                ...What's Britishness again?

My point that seems to have gone over your head is that a British person, born and bred here, whose family dates back to pre 1066, may also be a muslim.
With the greatest of respect, I understand your point perfectly. I am merely arguing that whilst, as I said earlier, I would welcome anyone in to this country as long as they toe the line, I do not want my Englishness/Britishness to be diluted.

I want this country to still be staunchly English in 50/100/500 years - yes, with a diverse mix of people, but not to the detriment of the fabric of our identity.

What about carol singing at Xmas?

Jehovas Witnesses shouldn't be allowed to knock on your door?

It's just religion!! It's always happened, it always will. People are only offended because it's the Muslims who are doing it, and they're them lot who wear them funny sheets on their head and bomb us aren't they?
Hari Krishna - They are a cult, a particulary inoffensive cult as far as cults go, but a cult none the less. What do you mean by practising thier religion in the streets? Generally speaking they hand out food to the homeless and march about singing now and then.

I don't have a problem with an occasional public event, not quite the same as screaming over a loudspeaker three times a day though is it.

Carol singing is more a tradition than a religious celebration, I'm distinctly non-religious but i've been carol singing in the past, normally to raise money for some charity.

Jehovas Witnesses should be banned IMHO. They will get some rude words and the door shut in thier face, or if i'm feeling witty i'll get the wife to go and say "You only have 1 god???" then burst out laughing before she shuts the door in thier face.

Btw Sikh's also wear funny things on thier head, as do Jews.

The issue is the fact they want to broadcast a call to prayer across the centre of Oxford. Mosque in Oxford - Fine. Pray to any deity you like in Oxford - Fine. Scream and shout over a loudspeaker 3 times a day because you have decided it is a good idea and you have then said it is a religious requirement to give you idea a good backing - No thanks.
