The central mosque is only now being built. The tower is due to be completed on 9 to 12 months time and they are including the poudspeaker in its construction. When the tower is complete they will then apply to be able to use the loudspeaker to "call the faithful".
It's Deja-vu all over again!

I'd have to hear it I think.
We have Siehk (no idea how to spell it!!) temple around from us and it has a big yellow net over it's spire (which I'm told they have to for religious reasons).
There was a lot of resistance to this when they first moved in, btu I really like it. People dont even notice it now, and it looks quite pretty (and when I first moved in it was how I knew I was on the right street home!)
Course, Siehks are no bother - they just get p*ssed and enjoy themselves.
I'm not sure what my point it...maybe just people fear change...especially when it comes to those "funny looking foreigners" - but most of the time it's ok.
Maybe I'm less resistant to new comers as I live on a port. Are people from Southampton etc the same?

I have to say that the problem I have is the fact it is being broadcast. Sticking something on a roof or putting up a sign is much easier to ignore because you don't have to look at it, you can't close your ears or tune out noise. You are stuck with it.
If it is such a big deal why have they not been doing it for the past x years ???Comment

I have a sneaking suspicion that you're not a native...Originally posted by M_B View PostIt does not bother me that it is broadcast in a different language as I have absolutely no interest in Islam, or any religion for that matter and the sound of words does not cause me offense. It will be better than listening to cars, trucks and planes. The squint, the cocked eye and clenched first are the cornerstones of all Merseyside communication from birth to graveComment

But this country is 'their country' for the muslims born and raised here. Don't they have the right to practice their religion ?Originally posted by Dark Black View PostTotally fair - it's their country, their call. No problem...
Of course in modern PC "bend-over" Britain it's a different story...
