Almost certainly not. I'd feel a bit cheeky having a wedding list when people wouldn't actually be going to the ceremony.

Edit.... of course, if you're offering...

                Etiquette!

Wrong there Pondlife, my generous man. You SHOULD expect presents if you are throwing a - sort of - lavish reception. If your cost is - say £ 40 per/head - the min you should expect is a £ 80 from a couple of so-called friends. If someone invites you at a reception in a pub, then £ 20 of store vouchers will do, otherwise should cough up more. You are only getting married once after all. Just show them your wedding DVD and it'll seem like live.

Hmmmm. It seems like I may be missing a trick here.

I will be posting a link closer to the event for all who wish to send their cash and best wishes.

                  TIA

                  Pondy.

While this is certainly the form in the states, it doesn't seem to be over here. We had full on wedding plus reception (not just the party bit) and received barely 1/5 cost ph. Not complaining; just informational. It might just be that my family and friends are tight, but I'd wager that a few of the married bods on here will have experienced the same.

Depends on how many people you really want there, and how much you want to blow. Lakhshmi (sp) Mittal blew £35million on his daughter, including £4 million on flowers, but he's the fifth richest man in the world.

We did ours for under £5k easily, but only invited people that we wanted to be there, so no spurious hangers-on. Total wedding party, including bride and groom: 29
