Yeah, I used to read "Victor", "Warlord" and "Bullet".

Then as a teenager after I was released from borstal I started reading 2000A.D.

Do you like my new suit? Loverly isn't it? Only very clever people can see it.
Yes - you must believe Labours Policies as an act of Faith - I believe in WMD's both visible and invisible - and the ones they shipped to Iran - and yes I do like your suit - only an idiot would argue otherwise.

I was a Valiant boy meself, but I also read those little war-story cartoon books, a bit smaller than A5 if I recall correctly. Can't remember what they were called but they were a bit more graphic.

When I got out of Borstal it was Marvel comics.

Commando it was (and is - it's still published I was amazed to find the other day). It taught me everything I needed to know about life.

            Thank you sir.

I believe there used to be other titles from the same stable. Some involved Paddy Payne, who was a pilot rather than a commando.

I don't know why, but when I clicked on that link I got an over whelming sense of there should be a sweet included - did they ever get sold with a free packet of really flat square red bubble gum plus some type of picture card???

              flipping memory

Mmmm, vague memories stirring there, you might be right.

Just browsed their site a little more and frak me, not only are they still publishing (surprising in itself in these PC obsessed days) but they publish eight issues a month!!! Four reprint issues and four all-new issues.

Commando picture stories for boys first broke cover in 1961 and we’re still out there. Every month you’ll find eight books on sale, four on the second Wednesday and another four on the last Wednesday.

That’s four brand new ones and four classic re-issues from our archives. Back in 1961, all the stories were about the Second World War, but now we cover the action and adventure from the First World War, the Boer War, the Napoleonic Wars, Korea, Vietnam – plus many more.

You’ll even find Romans, Vikings and the like lurking in our pages.
