I would have put money on you being one of them anal shoe remover brigades.

Do you rush over with a coaster when the guests put their drinks on the table and dust down the sofa when they get up to leave?

I do take my shoes off at the door of my own house cos I don't like wearing them and like to feel the squelch of the output of a potty training toddler between my toes!

I certainly wouldn't ask anyone else to - although I'd probably expect but not force them to wipe their feet (before treading in the squelchy output of a potty training toddler). If I invite them to my house I want them in there shoed or otherwise!

Just had new carpet fitted on the stairs and landing so it's a definite shoes off rule now. Not so worried about downstairs as it's all laminate so easy cleaning.

Must admit I don't tend to take my shoes off in other people's houses by default. If following someone into their home I copy what they do. If being invited in I keep shoes on unless asked otherwise but make a good effort on the mat to wipe off external detritus. If it's a light coloured carpet and looks pristine, I ask!

I stopped wearing shoes in the house when I got married to my asian wife. They simply don't wear shoes in the house. I've been doing it for so many years now, that when visiting other people, I feel uncomfortable keeping them on.

My home has underfloor heating, so there really is no need to keep shoes on. We don't insist on friends going shoeless, but many do so out of respect to us.

I don't have carpets. They are unhygenic and smell.
I sometimes get confused and call my contractors "carpets"
