    Oh.

I'm not a big NY fan myself - much prefer DC or LA. Mind you, it's been years since I've been to NYC.

Maybe at the end of the next contract, for 2008 Christmas shopping...

The things I do for people round here....

      http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/silverjet.htm

      http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/eos.htm

Both seem to have good reviews, but only 39 and 14 people have reviewed Silverjet and EOS respectively. The site will tell you about seat sizes etc. as well.

      Neither are environmentally friendly, though...

        £1000 - £1200+ for a NY business return?
I think I'll go for £200 - £250 for economy and spend the spare cash on something else. It's a 7-8 hour flight. I'm sure you can endure it for that long.

Do they give you a parachute in business class? If so then it might be worth it

I've found a trick that seems to work for me for long flights (anything longer than 5 hours).

            Stay up the night before.

That way, although I feel drowsy checking in, the moment I'm on the plane, I'm asleep and wake up the other end refreshed.

Also, minimal alcohol during the flight...perhaps a glass of wine and that's it.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I think that the travellers perception of value for money may depend on the size of said traveller.

Some people are quite tall and find it difficult to fit into an economy seat.

Of course, some just prefer the luxury of a first class flight - sipping Dom Perignon just before take off, and throughout the flight takes it's toll, though.

From the reviews, Silverjet seems slightly better. Mind you, if they find mechanical faults on their other plane, you might be in trouble to say the least. I haven't checked to see if they are back to operating two a day, but they had to cancel one of them as the plane had faults... That was over the summer, and was due back in mid-September though.

Mind you, BMI said the same about their plane to Mumbai, which hasn't re-entered service yet...

Maxjet are about half the price of Silverjet. Flying into JFK instead of Newark if that makes any difference.

No idea about the quality, though, yet...

I'm lucky in that I can sleep almost anywhere - economy class, motorbike, office.

Also who is paying the bill might affect the traveller's perception of value.
It did burn a bit that one of my old companies' travel policies was business class for short flights and 1st class for longer trips. This applied to the whole company including secretaries and general office staff except for IT who flew economy or business for long flights.
