kuwait is a different egg - i was making the heritage point to suggest why some find *dubai* soulless (i.e. dubai was sparsely populated before somebody decided to make it a major resort).

the middle east is as ancient and rich, if not richer in history and heritage than europe.. i'd love to explore it, big time particularly Petra in Jordan.

i'd give anything to leave this country too, the fact we've becoming settled here has caused me depression, bitterness and resentment.. i grew up here, have lived in most the major cities - it's my home country and there's plenty to like.. however, having travelled i've learnt the grass is far greener! the middle east would be ideal, being beautiful, a nice climate and geographically convenient being smack between europe and asia - shorter flights to india / japan / east europe etc..

I lived in Norwich as a kid. Is Dubai anything like Norwich?

Well, it's in the east, so they must be similar.

So why don't you leave then?
            What is keeping you "here"?
Why do you not go somewhere with a better quality of life and non racist population?
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

I've been in Saudi Arabia, whilst some b*stard was trying to bomb me. Does that count?
Have patience. In time, even grass becomes milk.

Big ask, finding somewhere like that.

Barry - visited Petra myself, amazing, even when you see it on TV so many times when you actually get there, its breath taking... there is a lot of biblical history in Jordan/Palestine - I considered Jordan for work too, unfortunately pay scale is not high, when I was a kid I also went with my parents to visit Syria, again breath taking.... would love to visit Joradn/Syria again.

LG: already said in my post I am not able to go in the next couple of years cuz my kids are in their last 2 years of school, bit difficult to uproot them at this stage, but promise when they move to uni will deffo look for a contract overseas
