    Bring back the SLR! 7.62.

The SA80 A1 was a piece-of-tulip, the A2 (the current version) is much nicer (and much less prone to jamming). The A1 had a reputation for jammin' as much as Bob Marley.

Yep, the SLR just worked...and would stop a charging rhino...

I wonder if any heads actually rolled for that wonderful piece of procurement
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Absolutely. PK distance measurable in miles!

          (PK = probability of kill).

And I don't know if any heads rolled over the A1; I hope but do not expect.

Cheap but good-looking every time. Expensive watches get bashed jsut like the cheaper variety, and attract the verminous element, too.

The original version was almost impossible to field strip when it jammed... which is really handy in a firefight, I'd have thought.
The A1 was first tested "for real" on Op GRANBY (GW1, 1991) and I had one there. Total, total POS - to such an extent that most of us were carrying pistols as well so that we could use them when (note: not "if") the A1 jammed.

              Total, total POS.

Strangely enough, since H&K re-engineered the A1 (turning it in the process into the A2) it's a much, much better gat.

As in software, so in warfare. Always wait for the 1st service pack before you install anything new.

Strangely, our political masters don't quite seem able to grasp that particular concept, regrettably.
