Backs and forwards make up a rugby team and the subtlety is mixing the two.
The fact that we draw a lot of penalties is not down to our negative play it is down to the inability of the opposition to defend against us who commit fouls due to their inability.
We would score more tries if oppositions held their discipline.
The pack scoring a push over is as sweet as running it through the backs.

We do not over defend either. We commit as many men as is needed to the ruck or maul, but everyone else stands back waiting for the next move.
That is sold defending, not boring negative play.
We would be foolish indeed to let opposition like France, SA and NZ make free with the ball. We have made the mistake of trying to defend against their game before. We are much better making them defend against ours. If we make SA play our game we might have a slim chance of beeting them whereas we tried to defend their game in the first round and look what happened there.

Obviously, this is my opinion and it is a bit rose coloured due to the fact I am English, but I do not accept this cry of boring. An England team in full flow is an awesome sight.
I agree. Against Australia no one could call Sheridan and co boring. The Aussies certainly didn't think so judging by the look of panic on some of their faces. There was a different kind of raw aggressive beauty to that game.
And also in the last few minutes of the France game - the cries of "Heave" resounding through the pub as the the team got to striking distance to set up the drop goal. It's true England are missing some flair players. A combination of the power game and some runners (a la Habana) and we'd be unbeatable.
BTW It's the same story in football, compare the Brazilian approach now to the 70s. Less free flowing and more controlled. France won the footy world cup against Brazil in 1998 with a controlled power game against Brazilian flair.
    Hard Brexit now!

One of the other problems we have is that every game is a war.
      Everyone hates England.
We have to have a siege mentality every game.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

It would have been nice to have won the Premiership, but alas that was one of the domestic honours that eluded them.

The purists didn't like Wimbledon's long-ball game in the late eighties and early nineties, but there was nothing dull or defensive about them. There was plenty of action all over the field, whether the ball was there or not!

And it got results against the pampered money boys!

You must have obtained a certain level of comfort on here sg to be so publicly sharing your perverted fantasies with us. However, I fear that I ought to point out the fact that when they are rock hard they are called pectorals. And whilst I am in the throes of checking out the veracity of your latest dribble, there is no "if" about an SA win.
