    To be honest I agree.
I bet that's the father's turnover. Out of which he'll have to pay a receptionist, surgery and whatnot.

And he's probably trying to sink a lot into a pension as well.

Edited in the light of boredsenseless' comment: He's probably shedding loads of money on a useless IT system that's being forced onto him by the NHS.

I was actually at a dinner party with some of her mates the other night and they started talking about people who work on supermarket checkouts and how humiliating their jobs must be. So this was a bunch of people from super privileged backgrounds who now have jobs like fiction writers, public servants, lawyers, etc laughing at how crap a working class persons life is.
    Kinda maddening.
I'm probably older than you, but I would have either have walked out or started out on one on my windups.

The truly rich don't brag about their wealth, and they certainly don't slag off lowly paid workers.

Both the bragging and slagging are the domain of the nouveau riche

Presume your missus can match your earning potential ? or does she do some part-time low paid 'worthy' stuff to make her feel better about not having to ?
If you really like her, forget her mates or just take the piss when they are around.
One thing though - I was on 70k once, market changed drastically resulting in 60% pay cut - gulp.
Make sure she doesn't see you as the cash machine, better to play down the earnings now than to find out when the gravy train hits the buffers and she bails.
2nd that - make sure they are loaded, tell her you *may* earn loads - give her hope, get married, buy very expensive cars and stuff......wait till she wants a divorce and take the holiday home as a settlement - bingo.

        or is that too synical

Yeah, get her pregnant and marry her while her family will still let you (i.e. before you drop under 70k pa). Tell her your projected earnings will increase by 20k pa for the next 5 years, or whatever.

Once her parents have popped their clogs shag one of her friends, the one who was laughing most at checkout girls, then come clean about it and tell your wife that she seduced you while you were drunk.

I play down my income to about 30K. Me and the missus live fine off that and her salary of £25K. As a result I have enough to live on for up to two years should a bad patch crop up and a nice deposit for a house when we need it.

Once in a while I splash out when we need something but otherwise I keep the cash locked up. Much rather that than to spend it all and when the bad times come struggle...

Given the current Veritas situation I really don't need to worry too much about the losses because I have some put aside to ensure day to day living isn't a problem. Some of the sales guys there were spending everything they earned and now are facing problems with mortgage repayments....

SA, surely you must have picked up some tips from the old man and I guess one of them wasn't lumping on Sunderland to win first five games

So expect a pre-nup then, so you'll get nothing when you divorce.

"I play down my income to about 30K."

                    That's a good idea, actually.

I've already been clear with my bird that I believe in equality and that she has to pay her fair share. If I buy dinner one night she should buy it the next. When we first started going out had a bit of an issue where we went away for the weekend. When it came to pay for the hotel bill I was like

"Ah that was lovely. So how shall we do this? I'll put it on my card and you give me half the cash or vice versa?"

I think we were both equally shocked when we realised that she had just expected me to foot all the bill!

Fair enough, if you earn more you can pay for some treats but they are treats and shouldn't just be expected. Ended up paying about 400 quid for that weekend. Could have lived for a month in Thailand on that.

Its a really tough one though isn't it? I think fella's should pay for the first date and the girl should offer on the second, but be told no and then she should insist on the 3rd date.... Thats what I did and now we just take turns, works pretty well, I think.

Women shouldn't just expect but it's nice for the first date or two...
