Like many people, I switched off to this after week one, when the press speculation started turning into a sick form of showbiz. Then a sniffer dog from Leicestershire had detected traces of blood and had sensed death in the flat where Madeleine slept.

One thing is sure if the McCann's wanted to hide something they are both clever enough to think up a plausible explanation. Also if anybody had wanted to steal a child they would have taken the youngest daughter.

The more I read on this tragedy, the more I'm thinking the portugese police are completely incompetent. Sounds bad for them right now with sniffer dogs and DNA but when you actually read the facts of the case you come away thinking that the cops are clutching at straws in a big way and are starting to believe the sensationalist stories being churned out in the portugese press.

The Portuguese want closure on the case, which would be the best thing as they have not got any chance of finding out the truth. Leave it 20 years and bring in Trevor Eve and his "waking the dead" team, they'll find out what happened.

The freak show continues in the village this morning - holding me up for 10 mins as I tried to thread my car through the sat vans etc on my way to work. However today the police have started to take control by putting up road blocks - the press not to be put off are now just setting up cranes and elevated platforms in order to look into the MaCanns house from afar.
