Ok to be more clear. When I said Database not Apps I meant an Oracle DBA as opposed to an Apps DBA, i.e the op was not an Apps person. I am Functional/PM so excuse me lumping all techies in the same boat

£400 a day sounds a lot for a DBAThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

but not for an oracle apps dba

£400 per day is a fair bit for DBA work, but, if you are a guru, you'll get more.
£50-60K is about right for a good permie DBA, but I'd want nice benefits, too.
DBA work doesn't command as much as development, but I suppose the upside is that it's, usually, less prone to abrupt ends to contracts; once the developers have done their bit, they are let go; the DB still needs looking after.
I was once a developer, but fancied the DBA side more. Never regretted it. More dosh for developing, certainly, but I simply "fell out of love" with it.Comment
