My key skills are DB / Datawarehousing and I'm hoping to work in London by commuting. I did also wonder about my age (wrong side of 40) but that's been discussed in another recent post so I'm assuming that the skills will suffice and I've kept it off the CV.
My advice to you, before you take the leap into contracting, is ensure that you know your tax responsibilities. It is not the avoider's charter that it used to be under previous governments.

I don't think attempts to go on my looks is the option for me though, after two kids and being the wiser side of 40 I could have them running scared. I'll just stick to my stronger points - it's mostly c and d that are questionable hence I'm still just considering.
But reading between the lines slightly, you are aware I hope that there is not a "career path" in contracting in the way you would understand it? You will build up a history of experience, which makes you more likely to get interviews, but that's it.

As I've said many times, I take people on the basis of their proven ability to do the job and I couldn't care less for their appearance (as long as it doesn't frighten the client), age, sex, accent or hairstyle. However, not everyone is that fair minded!

And the usual advice applies - go read the first timer guides here and on www.pcg.org.uk and understand them. There's a lot to learn!

If you're gonna quote, then at least mention the source.

I haven't had any problems finding work.
I think there may be something in the 'novelty value' argument (I reckon it helps you get interviews) but you've still got to be able to ace the odd tech test and do the job.

                      Good luck!
