Most situations are different, if I was on my own and I witnessed it, then I would probably help.

However if I had my family with me, why should I risk them getting hurt if it turns nasty ?

I have walked away from many scuffles in the past, but if i can walk away i will, i have nothing to prove to anyone and the risk of getting hurt or hurting someone else for a silly argument is a risk im not willing to take, if i cant walk away then i will have to fight and i will fight with everything i have

I think the point is that if more people were willing to intervene these yobs may think twice about their behaviour. As it stands they can do what they like as everyone thinks they *might* have a knife or other weapon.

In the past I have stepped in to assist, however in the modern day legal climate, I would not help a stranger.

Not because I am a coward, but because the law is now in favour of the criminal and their "yuman" rights.

Which means that the odds against me increase.

Before, it was the risk of getting a good hiding in return. Now I can add to that charges levvied by the thug for GBH and a criminal record.

        It's just not worth it.

If the police force, the laws of the UK and the greater laws of the EU effectively conspire against the general populace, then it's time to leave....
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That heartbeat may be your last, though. Silly.

I know it's silly but, that would be better than hearing someone else got stabbed and I could have done something to help prevent it.

I don't think anyone could live really live with themselves if they didn't help.

I've had a couple of occasions where I've told a gang of teenagers to clear off before (not quite in those terms).

I'm sure if they tried to take you to court it's a matter of saying they were coming towards you, self defence etc. and for good measure a phone call to the Sun telling them how you've been victimised.

I'd step-in if it were someone I was close to being hurt. But a stranger? Nope. I'd get away and call the cops.

Pepper spray or Mace is the solution in an easy portable container
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

The fear of someone carrying a knife is not justification for letting these clowns run amok, people who use that excuse are, IMHO, excusing their own cowardice.
