IMO the problem is certion beeds of dogs look mean and tough. These breeds appeal to certion mean and nasty individuals more than your average labrador owner.

So these breeds appear more and more in headlines.

Ah! I've seen that spelled "numty", too. I prefer "Numpty", though.

Gits get breeds of dog with a "reputation". I do feel sorry for the responsible owners, but the twonks have spoiled it for the rest, once again.

The Council, in this case, probably can't afford a system of vetting (no pun intended) each owner's case, so it has to be an easier blanket ban, instead. Sad.

sorry richard_arse i mistook you for a bit of a dictionary dan, assuming that your unhealthy obsession with spelling would also influence your use of words

Sounds like it could be a good pulling place for all those single lads now that the ruff dogs are banned.

Too many twonks have dogs, kids, you name it, that they never had any intention of keeping under control.
                Absolute b*llocks.
I could do as much damage to you or more with a pair of spectacles or a sharp pencil than the most vicious dog. What are you going to do, ban pointy objects as well ?

It's the idiot owners that need to be sorted out

You are missing the point, I think. If we are comparing the lethality of objects, then pens, spectacles, orange-flavoured Tic-Tics, whatever have one important difference to a dog: they are inanimate objects. A dog is quite different, in that respect, I think you'll agree.

And dogs can be, and sometimes are, left to roam free. Also, they can simply get the hump, and then be savage and dangerous, and possibly uncontrollable. I've not heard of anyone being savaged by 10-stone pen before.

I think my POV is further backed-up by the fact that there is no such thing as an inanimate object training class. Dog training classes do exist. QED, and all that.

Even the most mild mannered dog can turn into a killer. Alsations, Rottweillers etc are high strung dogs that are not ideal pets, especially for families with kids.

Don't get me wrong, I love all dogs and believe that owners must take the blame. There are circumstances however when a normally mild mannered dog will turn on it's owner and when you take a mild mannered 13 stone Rottweiller.....the outcome is bleak!!!
