It is all very good being "fair" but you have to be "seen to be fair". If people think you are being inconsistent, then that is how they pereceive that they are being treated so in order to be perceived to be consistent, you have to be "seen to be consistent".

I hope all of that makes sense cos it does to me...but maybe I had better re-read it!!!

Maybe I have just been in management tooo bl**dy long!!!

there is also an element of discretion involved here to which it is necessary to have recourse from time to time. it is also beneficial at times to be selectively pre-emptive. much as i'd like to, i am unable to reduce moderation to a science.

if you have been in management *that* long, i'd expect a consistently higher level of contribution from you, such as is evidenced by not a few of your posts. if you must indulge in sexual fantasy to while away the day, why not restrict it to 'light relief' where it belongs and where it won't get you into trouble?

Where do you draw the line between someone re-posting the "offensive" material and the original poster?

You made reference to that particular incident more than once SASG, why?

I can see that - pleased you see my POV.
I appreciate the job you do here SP, and the difficulties you must face as a moderator. There are 3 distinct types of posting that have brought the tone down lately: Personal abuse (joking aside - see AtW, sasguru etc); Crass lewdness (open to interpretation), and the 'Neo Nazi' rantings sas refers to.

If contributors can't source their arguments on contentious topics properly, and resort to abusive behaviour when challenged, then I'd say a warning is in order, but I wouldn't want to be in your shoes, having to judge that - especially given the amount of content generated here.

We contributors should take some additional responsibility and use the reporting tool appropriately, lessening the burden on the mods in the process.

I admit to some of my more risque posts...but thathappens on a board such as this. More often than not, a word of warning will suffice and an explanation of why the warning is given would also be beneficial.

I don't indulge in sexual fantasy, more light hearted playing and humour.

I recieved a slapped wrist and a deleted post from SP yesterday.
                      Deserved I might add.
I crossed the line without realising it, and made a potentially libelous comment.
I know full well that I have crossed the line on several other occasions (as have we all) but recieved no reprimand, I think because big brother is more than capable of defining between sincere and Tongue in cheek comments.
As for warnings, I think the absence of so many posters is warning enough for us all.
I still say bring back el duder though.

Sp, couldn't you just edit his more outrageous posts into something mundane or rediculous, to make him look the fool when he crosses the line
