It sound free markety but it is questionable if house prices have much to do with population. Did the population suddenly drop to cause the last period of falling equity? The next crash will not be due to the black death either, it is about earnings and confidence.
Immigration of high earners is a benefit but that of the great majority is anything but. Average earners (with a VERY few exceptions where wealth generated by the job is disproportionate to earnings) cannot raise average standard of living, it is a mathematical aburdity. All most migrants do is create their own demand, add xk more people and you need y more plumbers, z more cafes etc. to service them. Did you notice major staff shortages in the bars, cafes and shops before Poles took over all those "jobs the British won't do"? Me neither. I never noticed a shortage of taxi drivers before it became a largely Asian occupation either.
This is no help to the rest of us and only adds to overcrowding, more traffic, more building on our country and pressure on infrastructure that diminishes our quality of life. There are also too many threats to our own culture and values by those who refuse to accept them and too much crime by those admitted from violent third world countries under a lax system.

The UK issued National Insurance numbers to 713,000 overseas nationals in the year to April 2007.
And that is just the ones registering to work, does not include dependants or illegals.
So we probably have well over 1,000,000 now coming in per year, all with the blessing of the government.
What affect on housing, pollution, over-crowding, crime, health and education?
No wonder the UK is sinking. It is the sheer weight of immigrants.
Now, hang on, as the population increases, if there were the same amount of crime as before, the crime rate actually falls, so how can the police blame an increasing crime rate purely on the denominator?
Me thinks plod needs a maths lesson.I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?Comment

No. of crimes per 1000 people per year (in an area)
or
No. of crimes per year (in an area)
They are both rates, but I don't know which one is used.Comment

Originally posted by NumptycornerWell according to the documentary the crime rate was up 12% (IIRC). But this wasn't down to the increase in population. So they are saying that as the population grows the indiginous inhabitants commit more crimes. Do you think that is what really is happening?Comment
