Contract for tech you think is sh*t

If it's sh*t then other potential clients will know and not use it. Depending on how long the contract is, you may end up inadvertantly "specialising" in a cr@p technology as far as pimps are concerned. That's the only drawback I can see really. Personally I wouldn't do it though, it would drive me mad having to deal with something that I didn't enjoy using.

Good point but there does seem to be a 'herd' mentality amongst the clients I have worked for... so if they all adopt crap tech then you are quids in... really need to see who else amongst their peers are adopting

Well its Microsoft stuff, so it has the might of the MS Marketing Engine behind it, I have had a few calls from pimps about it.

You are right though its Access on steroids, and the load balancing is sh*t. Where I put it in we replaced 1 AIX box with 30 Windows boxes for this application.

Who cares if it's tulip, as long a blue chips are lapping it up and paying top dollar for skills to implement, extend and support it.

IMHO BizTalk is tulip, but there's plenty out there using it and paying good money for those that can design and implement it.

So the question is, is this technology/product going anywhere and is it niche enough to make a very good living at it?

Maybe, but as an architect could you live with that on your conscience? Myself I couldn't. I like to think I do the best job that I can as well as make the best recommendations that I can. It's part of being a professional IMO.

BizTalk isn't tulip, it's overhyped but it's not tulip.
