As a purely figurehead role with no real power and a great tourist attraction, I think the royals are fine.

Mind you, I'd quite like to see them have the power to throw politicians in the tower again (or worse)

If they're such a great tourist attraction, why not make them apply for their funding from the English Tourist Board along with everyone else - then we'll get a proper business case. And if we're interested in making money out of them, how about pay per view royal mud-wrestling. The international sales from that would be massive.
