John O'Connor, former commander of Scotland Yard's Flying Squad, told BBC News the incident bore all the "hallmarks" of a failed suicide bomb attempt.

Sounds more like some guy who got pissed up, drove into a bin and decided to run off rather than be done for drink driving to me....

The area was cordoned off while police examined what they described as a "potentially viable explosive device".

potentially viable ? What sort of rubbish is this?? I bet it's some pisshead who had a few cannisters of calor gas in the boot for his burger van and the police are making a big fuss because it's getting close to the anniversary of 7 July and they could do with finding another bomb to make themselves look good....
