Spent a week on remand in Wandsworth nick (very nasty experience by all accounts) then bailed with all sorts of restrictions: cannot go within 50m of any unaccompanied child under the age of 14, cannot use a PC or access the net (big problem for an IT bod), all sorts of nonsense. Lost his job and ended up living with his mum in the country while waiting 18 months for the case to come to court.
Came under a lot of pressure from the old bill to plead guilty as it was a cut 'n' dried case they said, if he pleaded not guilty his picture would be in the papers for sure, his life would be ruined, etc., etc. Anyways, he maintained he knew nothing about it and stuck to his guns and during the trial it became apparent that the creation dates on the files he was alleged to have downloaded were after the PC was seized by the police. The judge tore a strip off the prosecution brief and released him without charge, but his life had already been ruined and as far as I know no one was ever held to account for trying to fit him up.
