How can I responsibly get rid of a big old CRT monitor? Some kind of hi-tech rag and bone man would be appreciated!

Freecycle was my first thought, but I had a look and there were loads of people offering them and nobody picking them up.Comment

Try a few local charities instead.
One close to me will pick up monitors and PC's for £25 and then salvage bits to make semi-decent machines for the third world. (CRT monitors are turned in to TV's apparently)Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
