So because it started under the last government it's ok to continue this! The use of consultancies has rocketed under this lot. NL have been running the show for 10 years - You can't really use the failings of a government from 10 years ago to justify the crock of sh1t we are saddled with.

Of course the use of consultancies has rocketted under NL - tey have no other alternative! What else are they supposed to use? There's no in house skills anymore!!

And I didn't say this situation was OK, I'm merely pointing out that you cannot use that as something to batter NL over the head with - the Tories also did it, and they are actually responsible for nl HAVING to use consultanices now.

They shared with NL the idea that the consultancies were a good thing. The only reason the Tories sold out to EDS was that Andersen had been banned by Thatcher for failing to prevent the DeLorean fiasco (they were the accountants).

When Labour got in they naturally opted for a New Beginning and outsourced to Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) instead.

Labour minister Patricia Hewitt used to be an Accenture director.

Thatcher may have banned "Andersen", but "Arthur Anderson" (or some other version of the same company) was always around during the tories reign. They were putting NIRS2 in from about 1985 - 2000! Same company, different name. They never had a break from that project, except maybe a legal week here and there while they changed their stationary.
