Time to stock up on baked beans and bottled water according to what currently passes as a government.

They failed to mention if shotguns and cartridges were also required for defence of such comestibles. .

Like many things, I think there's a spectrum. At one end, you've got a "just in time" system, where you wait until you've only got a few sheets of toilet paper left before you buy a new roll. At the other end, you've got people who keep a 5 year supply of emergency rations in a bunker.

If there's stuff that lasts for ages (e.g. tinned food), and you've got storage space, and it's not too expensive, it makes sense to add a bit extra to your weekly shop and gradually build up a surplus. At that point, you can rotate the stock (i.e. put new stuff at the back of the cupboard and take older stuff out of the front), and if you can't get to the shops for a couple of weeks then it's not a big deal.

Think of the "war chest" that we all (aim to) have, rather than living hand to mouth.
