Afaik it was a signwriters / printers. Wasn't a massive place so I'm not expecting they put arsenic from the printing process in the ground.

I shall ask. Due to the problems with the management association at my grans flat I am going to steer well clear.

Get it professionally snagged. In other words, get a company that carries out professional snagging inspections to walk through and produce a report showing what's wrong with it. I bought a new build a little under two years ago, and they caught 150+ problems that the builder had to fix.

I blogged about this over at http://www.newhomeblogs.co.uk/weblog1/, the snagging company I used was http://www.newbuildinspections.com/, and I can highly recommend them.

Those guys also run http://www.snagging.org.uk/, which (last time I looked, which was some time ago) had quite a helpful forum.

What should I be looking to ask about?

            So far I have:

            NHBC Warranty?
Sizes for appliances (to make sure no daft, odd sized washers needed). Measure the holes in the kitchen.
            Phone point (NTL or BT)
Is the "allocated" parking on the deeds
Council Tax Band (and cost for year)
Freehold/Leasehold - Its a house so I'd expect free but there are flats on the same development site so I'd better ask.
A few questions about moving power points etc.
Curtains/Carpers included (they are currently in it)
How does the "you pay the stamp + 5% deposit work"

Is there anything ovbious that i have missed?
Many new build houses are long leasehold (usually 999 years), after a year or two they then auction the leaseholds off. If you buy the leasehold at exchange it won't be much at all (prob under 2k). When they sell it, it will be at two fold the price.

Ask them where the social housing will be (all new builds over a certain size have to have some shared ownership housing).
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Try Burnley, Darwen (Lancs) or Barrow In Furness. 175 buys a lot in the outback.

But what you save in house prices you lose in 5 mile walks to the pub

Ah, I will see what they say. I'll find out what the limit is as there are 10 houses and maybe 12 flats on site so it may be small enough to scrape by.

If its a least hold then I shall be running a mile. I certainly don't want to pay ground rent - or to be sitting on land someone else owns.
