Is there a bank that doesn't use its power to indulge in social engineering and provides its customers with state of the art banking? Where would you bank instead of NatWest?

Ultimately if one is de-banked and others think because you've been de-banked by one institution they won't accept you is there a bank of last resort? After all it's impossible to lead a normal life in the modern world without a bank account so where do you go if in that position?

The bank that consistently gets good consumer reviews is First Direct who are owned by HSBC.

I had issues with the NatWest as a student so moved to RBS. Then I had a fight with RBS to stop having a packaged bank account around the time they took over NatWest so moved.

One of the arguments against going cash free is the unavailability of basic debit accounts.I think the government should provide a basic bank account for paying benefits, you know we could be based in Merseyside say Bootle and calling it something like Girobank?
