I've never been active on Twitter but did used to read it... these days it's just a cesspit of hateful right-wingers and virtue-signalling lefties (more so than usual) to the point I cannot find anything to read. Not to mention Elon's attempts to make it worse for users in pretty much any way.
The data capture of Threads is concerning but as I already have a FB (and Insta, also largely unused) account the reality is they probably have it all already. They're certainly chosen a good time to launch due to the recent Twitter fiascos.

Selecting Following just gives you tweets for people that you follow. Largly filters out the extreme tweets that seem to thrive on being extreme.
I only read twitter so I don't use it for posting content but I've not noticed the UI become worse. I've read this a few times but what have you found worse?

I don't know the UI is worse, I meant the platform generally. THat's a good tip to default to Following but it used to me, my feed would show me genuinely interesting profiles linked to others I had seen - turning this off means I will never discover new things.

I tend to find people that are interesting either from retweets of people I follow, replies to tweets or comments made by people I follow. Perhaps that's why I havent noticed the decline in the platform.
2. Threads data policy is great - so yeah give zukerberg more data
"Threads potentially collects a wide assortment of personal data that remains connected to you, based on the information available in Apple’s App Store, from your purchase history and physical address to your browsing history and health information. “Sensitive information” is also listed as a type of data collected by the Threads app. Some information this could include is your race, sexual orientation, pregnancy status, and religion as well as your biometric data"
