    Amazon fresh

Was in Islington at the weekend - don't ask!

Fell across Amazon fresh. Though ooh have to try this.

Prices were about the same as Tesco Express but with a few deals.

Interestingly the experience was excellent. I just picked up some cans of drink and it recognised what I had taken and I paid by card. Oddly no paper receipt but it recognised my card and emailed my receipt.

That's pretty much anyone in retail screwed for a job.

The supermarkets have mostly tried to replace check-out people with those annoying self-scan systems already. The people this will make redundant are those who constantly run from one self-scan point to another overriding its refusal to let you actually scan your own shopping

I do like the one with the barcode scanner though, that has been around since the 90s IIRC and works quite well.

Is Amazon Fresh anything to do with the acquisition of Whole Foods?

I discovered Whole Foods in the US and it is by far the best supermarket I have ever used.

It makes visiting Waitrose feel like a trip to CEX in a really grubby provincial high street in comparison.

Yup, Whole Foods is a cut above Waitrose - always use that when in the US.

All very clever tech but even with no cashiers to pay, it still seems like a low margin business for Amazon to be in. Given the billions they have lost with Alexa and smart devices, it seems they are running out of profitable ideas to keep growing.

7% and then take away staff costs sounds awful business sense!

                  Every single loyalty card/app.

Some retailers were late to the market vs others e.g. Superdrugs vs Boots, Asda vs Clubcard/Nectar.
