    Bye Bye Nicola

    She's resigned after 8 years.

    Yes the Scottish leader person.

    (Heard on LBC just now.)

Nicola Sturgeon is to resign as Scotland's first minister after more than eight years in the role.

The Scottish National Party leader is expected to make the announcement at a hastily-arranged news conference in Edinburgh.

It is not clear exactly when she will leave office.

Ms Sturgeon has been first minister since November 2014, when she took over from Alex Salmond following the independence referendum.

She went on to become the country's longest-serving first minister.

A source close to Ms Sturgeon - the longest-serving first minister - told the BBC that she had "had enough".
Realises she's going to fail to achieve the thing she set her entire career around.

Hastily prepared? Is there some salacious detail one wonders?

Lets hope the new one fixes all the things the SNP ignored.

Drakeford's wife died so to be honest I thought he was going soon as death teaches you life lessons.

Sounds rather like she's realised her single minded devotion to one lost cause is getting in the way of everything. Also sounds awfully like she's ignoring her party's many failings across areas like education and health but, quite naturally, is emphasising her many successes, such as, erm...

No idea who can or will replace her, but there is a chance the UK can at last have an honest debate about Scotland's future without having to look at everything through the pinhole of independence.

All rather sudden, only weeks after saying that she had plenty in the tank. At least now she'll be able to spend more time with her husband girlfriend.
