CGT on principal home sales ?

Rumour of Hunt/Sunak applying CGT to the sale of your principal home.

I suppose die-hard Tories can always say 'Yeah, but Corbyn.........'

Makes sense, but I would eat my metaphorical hat if they did it. A lot of this crap is pitch rolling for the actual bad stuff that will happen.

I hope this is true, all gains belong to the govt. If you want to move just borrow the tax amount on top. You can afford it.

Especially gains accrued by tax-avoiding contractor and entrepreneur scum.

How many of that party keep the ownership of their homes in an offshore trust, so there is no IHT either when they shuffle off this mortal coil?

Nah, won't happen - they are just leaking this in order to make other massive CGT increases look "ok"

The possible but could get complex. What about property enhancement work to improve value, selling off land, length of time owned, mortgage value (due you tax all the gain, or just a %), how is it collected and calculated (solicitors?), the drop in house prices because of this, inability to move up the ladder ... so many reasons why this will never happen.

What I think they should do though is change the stamp duty to be paid by the seller and not the buyer.

                    Why not both?
