If they hadn't invaded a neighbouring state and murdered many thousands of their people in cold blood, I'm fairly sure Putin would have been invited. He got his timing wrong.

Putin sent his condolences on the first day. He also stated that he would not attend the funeral thus pre-empting a non-invitation. However, it's still open for an embassy official to attend. These sort of events are opportunities for diplomacy even when your enemy is repugnant.

Russia is very moral. The Wagner group is recruiting cannon fodder from prisons and instructing conscripts to avoid sex with men, women, animals and plants.

If Putin goes into any European or non-friendly air space he is subject to arrest and being put on trial in the Hague.

• journalists like Piers Morgan and from British media organisations including BBC, Guardian, ITN
• business people

Quite honestly, the UK does not have any politician with the brains and calibre to deal with Russia. That said, at least Boris sent weapons and support to Ukraine. Somehow, there has to be an end to the war.

My point was you don't expect an invite from the head of state if your country bans the people who govern on their behalf, and those who hold all of them to account plus ordinary citizens.

That's ignoring the fact that if you or certain people turn up, they will be arrested and sent to the Hague.

The UK has previously welcomed war criminals and on one occasion (2009?) they tipped one off and he had to stay on the aircraft and return home.
