I'm much younger than the typical cruise demographic but have for years thought it sounds quite pleasant. We did a cruise a few years ago from Sydney to Yokohama with Princess and just sitting on the balcony watching flying fish fly and the unexpected sight of passing a smoking volcano. Lot's of sea days but absolute bliss
Go with cruise line's such as Celebrity, Viking or any of the six star lines for proper luxury travel.
