    If children were dying or being injured in large numbers from Covid or flu then people's attitudes would be different. (See polio or actual flu pandemics as a reference)

    I never quite understood why the flu, a nasty and dangerous respiratory virus that kills thousands a year and infects us on average once every 10 years, is used as the yardstick for how bad or not covid is. If we had a pandemic flu now (i.e. a flu to which there is no existing immunity in the community) and it was projected to infect 60% of the population within a month, then we would (or should) be in full on panic mode.
