Remember Gorden Brown?
https://www.lbc.co.uk/hot-topics/cor...sks-christmas/
Mr Brown previously accused the UK of hoarding coronavirus vaccines, issuing a warning that new variants would develop as a result - which they now have, with the emergence of the Omicron strain.
He told Nick there was "no doubt" rich countries such as the UK were stockpiling more vaccine than they needed, pointing out that globally 12 million vaccines will have been made by the end of the year - enough to vaccinate every adult twice.
"The problem is that most of these vaccines have gone to the richest countries, so nearly 90 per cent have gone to the G20 countries and only 10 per cent to the other 170 countries," he said.
"As long as we continue to hoard it, there will be vaccines wasted in the west that could have saved lives in the rest of the world.

Well, yes and no ... the west (not sure if we're guilty of this, but I'd be surprised if we were not) donate vaccines that are nearly at their use by date. Problem is the sporadic nature of these donations which means the poorer countries, with weak infrastructure, can't have a well planned vaccine rollout strategy. It's all well and good giving them 12 millions vials, but if the use by date is a week how the hell are they going to organise the distribution of it.... so it ends up going to waste.Originally posted by d000hg View Post

There are obviously other issues too, but this is a big one unfortunately. It's in our own interests to help poorer countries stay on top of this virus, and yet western countries are still thinking within their own borders only, when the virus doesn't respect borders.

The emergence of this variant is likely signalling the end of the pandemic:

Quite a lot of experts are saying this and it's mostly governments/media/pundits saying otherwise.Comment

You don't want this to end, do you? The German president of the EU has suggested violating the Nuremberg Code. Seventy years later and they are right back in the same place. The "pandemic" is over, I know it breaks your heart but it is.Originally posted by NotAllThere View Post
