Leaked Matt Hancock CCTV footage was in ‘public interest’ says Boris Johnson’s office

"Leaked Matt Hancock CCTV footage was in ‘public interest’, says Boris Johnson’s office

The leaked CCTV footage which exposed Matt Hancock's affair was in the public interest, the Prime Minister's spokesman has said, as an investigation into an alleged data breach continues.

Two people suspected of recording the film without consent had their homes raided on Thursday by officials from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Police and Crime Commissioners have also called for the police to launch an urgent investigation amid concern over the security of government buildings."

Fantastic - we need more leaks in public interest on all ministers and especially Prime Minister. Bring it on!

The whistle blowers will eventually get cleared but the company who employed them will get fined for lax data protection processes.

How can they be fined if data release was "in the public interest"?

Simple. It was a breach of the Official Secrets Act. The disclosure isn't the problem, the publication of material from a classified source most certainly is - and rather more serious than Hand-Cocks misdemeanours.

So ministerial affairs are now the Official Secrets?

            Nobody asked me about that

No, but "materials" inside Government buildings are. They are protected places in the Act

I refer you to - "The leaked CCTV footage which exposed Matt Hancock's affair was in the public interest, the Prime Minister's spokesman has said"

                Public interest surely trumps anything?

                  Do pay attention...

The leakage of Hancock's misdemeanours is not the issue. Nobody really gives a stuff about him. He is, after all, a serial failure.

That is not the purpose of the investigation.

A cleared person (else they wouldn't have had access) breaching security rules to leak secure material without authorisation is the issue. What was leaked is irrelevant, the fact that it was leaked is what is exciting the security services.

Or, at its simplest, "We don't care what was leaked, we do care that it was".

Sorry if that's a bit difficult to understand.

It is a bit difficult to understand now that the Prime Minister's spokesman has said it was "in the public interest", in my book that trumps everything else.
