There are exceptions of course but most of the food that you find in supermarkets is of sub par quality. Restaurants as well. If you compare the quality with what you find in Europe, including Eastern Europe, quality is lower and price is higher.Originally posted by SueEllen View Post

You have to stick with buying from butchers, premium supermarkets and only go to select restaurants.
Myself and flatmate, both Romanians, struggle to find decent food in Canary Wharf and surroundings, without breaking the bank. There are a few restaurants or takeaways that you discover by trial and error and the only reason those exist is because there are affluent people in the area and made it feasible for them to open and maintain decent standards here.
We avoid Asda or Tesco and mostly use amazon prime and waitrose. Found an italian shop in Lewisham and were over the moon with that. There is a kebab shop that we buy from, a falafel takeaway place and an italian restaurant, a german restaurant. That is pretty much about it.
And most of the time you are at, £20-£30 per meal so not quite sure how many people are willing to spend that.Comment

I would not have a problem eating horse meat if it had taste and gown without hormones.Originally posted by vetran View Post

Meat is actually good in the UK, the one raised organically and grass fead.
But the rest of products, in general are sub-par.
People have to be aware of it and increase their standards. I do believe it is the prime driver of obesity and serious health conditions. But it won't come for free, supermarkets one day deciding to put better products on their shelves.
In the end you are what you eat.Last edited by GigiBronz; 7 July 2021, 15:57.Comment

That was the point , our recent food scandals have come from abroad. Yes our quality could be better but our safety is mainly better than most.Originally posted by GigiBronz View Post

I would not encourage the same narrative US vs OTHERS. We are all humans and should work for a common goal.
On the other hand the litigation law in UK is a bit tricky and you would find why many public people/companies prefer to hide behind it - because freedom of speech might not have a foot to stand on in court.
So at the same time it is less likely for a scandal to reach the press if the originator is within UK jurisdiction.Comment

Completely disagree failing to disclose a scandal or covering up in the UK will get you or your organisation a massive fine and or jail time. A simple mistake won't.Originally posted by GigiBronz View Post

What we might not be doing is setting our standards correctly.Comment
