    Pre-vetting reader comments before submission

Most high-volume comments sections on various sites such as Guido's blog and (cough) Mail Online operate an automated vetting system which checks comments for offensive or spam content, and falling foul of this inadvertantly or otherwise means a comment disappears never to be seen again, with no warning (*) or explanation of why. Innocuous examples include "via gravity" which contains "viagra", or "therapist" containing "rapist", or the notorious Scunthorpe!

So, although there are doubtless many such systems, I wondered if there was a site where one could test a comment to see if was likely to fail automated moderation on the more common comment systems such as Vuukle and Disqus, before submitting it to the actual site of interest.

(*) It's rumoured that on Guido's blog comments are vetted in real time as they are being typed, and a pixel somewhere on the screen turns purple if the current contents of the comment window will fail. But I don't post there often enough to have noticed that. If true then there might be some trace of this in the Javascript.

I mod Freecycle and sometime get posts on hold because of some innocent use of a word or the £ sign etc. Difficult to do much without AI.

PS Typical unhelpful comment but at least it's pushed you up again.

I'm amazed nobody seems to know the answer to this one.

Obviously the comment platforms themselves would be cagey about revealing details of their algorithms, or people would be able to test contentious posts and game the system. But one would think someone else has developed a freely available online resoure for doing the same.

Diffiuclt to do with AI as the Time's comments section auto-moderation shows.

Article about phone scams, and you can't comment using the word "scam". Genius.
