    No. At the time Portugal was on the green list with HMG saying it was unlikely to change. Why it is changed now, given the real world situation, is a mystery.

    Also it's a longer story than booking Madeira for a break on a whim, but let's not let reality intrude too far.

    And SWMBO is a public health professional scientist, so we were not making judgements based on the Guardian's opinion or some bloke down the pub. Unlike some....

      But proper insurance (that would pay out if Govt removed it from green list) was very expensive or maybe even unavailable, yes or no?

                    I sympathise with malvolio, so this isn't a "dig", but FWIW I agree with the above.

                    If the holiday was mainly for the kids, they've have been just as happy if not more so staying in a Welsh farmhouse for a couple of weeks, and with luck you may have had the odd sunny day or two.
