So why is the UK being so slow with the 2nd jab? When the instructions on the bottle say take one twice daily, would you just take one a day for twice as long and hope for the best?

It's been reported that the reason why Pfizer says three weeks between doses is because that's all they tested. They didn't (because there probably wasn't time) test the efficacy of different gaps between doses.
My understanding (based on interviews I've heard on the radio) is that it takes a couple of weeks for the immune system to 'take in' the information from the first dose so anything after three weeks will serve as a good time to boost the system for a more complete response.
You're not in the UK though, are you? So why are you worried about the strategy when it doesn't affect you.

You know the answer, why play dumb?
The lengths you'll go to to distort and manipulate data to try and hide how dismal you are doing with your own vaccination program. The EU is an international laughing stock right now.

“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”

oh no the EU isn't a laughing stock its only 10% behind Romania and Poland. Germany is nearly 20% behind!
Yes but on the link they are shown separately so you can see the EU overall and the progress of individual countries within it. if those countries (France) are significantly lagging (10%) the EU that countries achievement could be argued that issue is within country not directly the fault of the EU. If they are significantly higher then one can assume they are doing something the majority of the EU is not.
So UK =18.5 doses compares to
Spain=4.50
Italy = 4.35
Germany = 3.91
EU=3.89
France = 3.25
So Spain & Italy are above average for the EU Germany is nearly average, France are way behind.
