I thought local authorities were doing their own thing. Mine is - I thought about offering my services, but it would be unpaid and I would have to pay for my DBS check. Feck that.
Also BBC local radio have a campaign going, and one of the England egg-chasers is fronting another campaign. Nothing about all of this looks in any way organised, which of course is the hallmark of Crapita (and the useless feckers you mentioned).

Hmm, looking online they claim £23 even for volunteers though you might have been required to get an enhanced DBS which costs more (DBS check: application process for volunteers - GOV.UK)

However my wife definitely got one done for about £3 for a volunteer... maybe some special case or maybe the 'employer' can do them cheaper. The time is a bigger concern, my current client's client insists we all have them and like all government IT, it's tedious
