It's not certain that he committed suicide. It's likely, but not certain.Originally posted by darmstadt View PostTuring was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts; the Labouchere Amendment of 1885 had mandated that "gross indecency" was a criminal offence in the UK. He accepted chemical castration treatment, with DES, as an alternative to prison. Turing died in 1954, 16 days before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning.Down with racism. The first is that Alan was just chemically castrated rather than hanged on a crane, which would have been a truly barbaric thing to happen to a great mathematician such as Alan Turning who contributed so much to the UK.
The second is that it was long time ago anywayComment

This has the making of a good idea to boost take up of vaccination. If all countries refuse entry to those without proof of vaccination and medical care for those in common travel areas then more than likely a larger proportion of people will take it up. This has the advantage that each nation is acting against foreigners not their own populations. Also makes it harder for protests to take place as who would they protest against, the rest of the world?Originally posted by AtW View Post“ Spain is to set up a registry of people who refuse to be vaccinated against coronavirus and share it with other European Union nations, the health minister has said.
Salvador Illa said the list would not be made accessible to the public or to employers.
He said the way to defeat the virus was "to vaccinate all of us - the more the better".
Spain has been one of the countries in Europe worst affected by the virus.”

Turing was done for gross indecency, which encompasses a range of activities. Being gay was not a crime.Originally posted by AtW View Postministroke makes two points -

He decided to take drugs as he at least agreed in principle that this was something that could be 'cured'. He wasn't forced to take anything.Comment

He wasn't arrested up for being gay, I'm guessing he got arrested for shagging in a park.
If being gay was an issue we would not have given an obvious fruit like Noel Coward a knighthood.Comment

So I am guessing that chemical castration was the normal punishment to all those arrested for shagging in a park?Originally posted by minestrone View PostHe wasn't arrested up for being gay, I'm guessing he got arrested for shagging in a park.Comment
