And you know that because you are the person in charge of both Pfizer and Moderna trials?Originally posted by Hanbanthankyoumam View PostIncorrect, the vaccine doesnt stop you contracting it, nor spreading it.

No, I'd say he knows that because he's smarter than you.Originally posted by AtW View PostAnd you know that because you are the person in charge of both Pfizer and Moderna trials?

Vaccines train the immune system so it can fight against a virus.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Yes, and that can prevent both -Originally posted by WTFH View PostVaccines train the immune system so it can fight against a virus.
1. Contracting the desease (Covid) - appears to be the case in both Pfizer/Moderna, plus reduces severity in those who did contract it, contracting the virus isn't the issue here since it's assumed that it will be contracted for vaccine to have work in the first place, it's the desease that's the problem, not virus per se.
2. Spreading the virus (thanks to neutralising anti-bodies) - appears to be the case (in estimated at least 50% of cases, by CEO of Pfizer), but much longer observation needed to be sure of that.
So on the basis of that his statements are false.Last edited by AtW; 8 December 2020, 13:30.Comment

I would agree with you if it weren't for you confusing the word "can" with "will" and the words "appears to be" with "is"Originally posted by AtW View PostYes, and that can prevent both -

What will happen in the UK is that Govt will vaccinate as many most vulnerable age groups + health pros, then allow the virus to rip through society so those who are in riskier groups but don't want vaccine will have pretty fecking hard time avoid contracting the virus, and when they do it will be blamed on their own decision to avoid vaccination.
You've heard it on here first...Comment

Phase 3 did not run long enough to have definitive answers to those questions, however given current preliminary results there is no basis to claim that -Originally posted by WTFH View PostI would agree with you if it weren't for you confusing the word "can" with "will" and the words "appears to be" with "is"
a) vaccine does NOT prevent contracting Covid
b) vaccine does NOT prevent virus from being spread
In fact available evidence strongly suggests that Pfizer/Moderna are actually achieving those objective to a very high degree: that's is expected with very high 95% efficacy, but nobody can say to what degree (ie 50% don't spread virus or 70% or maybe 90%).
I've read that it will take another year to get definitive answers to those questions with %-tages attached.Comment

then you changed it to they are wrong because the answer could be something different
and now you're on to they are wrong but we don't have conclusive evidence yet due to lack of testing,
...but your theory is that they must still be wrong.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

They are wrongOriginally posted by WTFH View PostSo, you started off by saying someone was wrong,
They are wrong again because it's known that vaccines in principle CAN prevent desease/spread of viruses (measles) _and_ available evidence for mRNA Covid vaccines strongly suggests they also do it, but not known to what degree yet. We do know a fair few things from Stage 3 and that can be used to infer other stuff.Originally posted by WTFH View Postthen you changed it to they are wrong because the answer could be something different
We don't have conclusive evidence as to what %-tage of cases spread is reduced, that requires time, but we have evidence vaccine has 95% efficacy and based on what is known about how vaccines work that strongly suggests neutralising anti-bodies prevented spread of the virus, but CEO of Pfizer won't give anything other than he thinks it's probably at least 50% spread preventing.Originally posted by WTFH View Postand now you're on to they are wrong but we don't have conclusive evidence yet due to lack of testing, ...but your theory is that they must still be wrong.
What's the evidence that person has that vaccine (Pfizer/Moderna) does NOT prevent spread (in %-tage of cases)?

It's like argueing with cretins today on hereComment
