I recently applied for a really attractive job and had two interviews. On the day of the second, I was told I was on the final shortlist. Meanwhile, the recruitment consultant asked me on behalf of one of his colleagues if I knew someone who could quickly fill a six-month contracting position at a different company. I suggested a friend I had worked with previously.
After hearing nothing for a few days, I got in touch with the recruitment person, who revealed that my friend had been offered the job I had been going for.
He admitted that it looked bad, but said his colleague had put my friend up for “my” job without his knowledge, and he was able to start straight away, whereas I would have had to serve out my notice....
