Trump orders Bojo to kick out Huawei

The order to do so came via White House national security adviser Robert O'Brien. All existing Huawei must be ripped out by 2024 (BBC says 2027).

So much for Independence after Brexit.

Should have been done long time ago, why didn't it happen?

Lord Browne quits as Huawei UK chairman as government ban looms | Business News | Sky News

Because Huawei was smart enough to hire people like Lord Browne and God knows who else (kids of politicians?) to stay in.

Big chlorinated chickens are coming home to roost.

This will cost several billion and push back the 5G rollout by several years. Meanwhile Chinese cyber-criminals will continue to access systems via the internet. Why would anyone bother to try attacking via a mobile transmitter, it's pointless, you can use your own mobile.

Peanuts insofar national security is concerned.

Even if it delays 5G for a few years, so what - in Covid world people are burning 5G towers, you'll save money by delaying the roll out.

The real question should be why we don't have our own technology?

            Exactly.

How is it China gets to build Huawei in space of 10-15 years where as UK isn't even trying.

Heck - Sweden and Finland done better in this critical space, why would not their 5G equipment be bought?

I guess the answer is they are not subsidised to further needs of their Govt intellgence apparatus, and they don't hire people like Lord Browne who prostitute their names to further not even allies, but major rivals!

...because everybody is working in the Finance industry earning more than you would get in manufacturing telecommunications equipment.

If there was a huge effort to match Huawei, then the question would be "why are the Chinese so successful in Finance", and the answer would be because everyone is working on 5G telecom systems.

China is doing everything now, including Finance (via Hong Kong).

China has a population of 1.4 billion, so they can do a bit more.

To be fair, this is actually Trump's doing. Had he not banned the Chinese using US chips as part of his childish trade war, meaning they have switched to their own brand ones, they could then potentially introduce their own interesting design features. All that's happened is that the risk profile has changed significantly and banning their use is merely the sensible option.

but hey, let's blame the UK. Far more fun...
