The expired PPE was just nonsense, the PPE was retested to make sure it was still OK. She may well have had some real factual points to make but was spoilt by her political views and disingenuous comments.

If you read the advice from NHS England that is exactly what they do. They test the PPE and if fails it's then destroyed.

You don't have friends who are doctors, who you can ask information from? I would've thought most contractors here socialised in such circles. It's one of the main reasons I'm fully aware of the situation in England and Scotland. Perhaps those posting here who live in NI and Wales can confirm the state of affairs there.

It is all bollox. Currently we have around 20K extra deaths over a normal year of seasonal flu, with a vast majority of those in the 75+ group. Currently there are expected to be an extra 10K deaths from Cancer patients already diagnosed and unable to be treated. The longer the mal-managed NHS carries on like this the bigger that number will be, as they are currently not doing biopsies, with 1M+ waiting. This is across all age groups as Cancer is indiscriminate.

And a qualified GP knows that worldwide deaths from Obesity this year will be approaching 9.5M, so I think some serious discussion needs to be had regarding our responses and the NHS reaction, the answer is not always 'throw money at it'.

The number of excess deaths in the period from the week ending 27 March to 29 May was 57,961. Statisticians say this figure could show undiagnosed Covid-19 deaths as well as deaths caused by a lack of treatment resulting from the lockdown.

I think its a common story tbh.

A huge scandal for me, was the deliberate downgrading of the severity of Covid 19 , to essentially try and protect DHSC from employment laws that obligate them to protect the workforce from hazardous environments.

Today, in many many hospitals - people STILL don't have full PPE in Covid wards, 1 person does - the thinking being that the risk is if someone has a cardiac arrest or needs some kind of close work , then they call for the PPE staff member.

In many covid wards now, doctors are still going singularly into wards and treating 8 patients , performing all the tasks that would usually be done by several staff , to minimise risk - but still only wearing nitrile gloves and a surgical mask.

One of the biggest lessons learned from this, is that the quality of care in ITU for Covid is much less than what would be deemed "acceptable to good" in a standard ward.

There are a few people in thread talking about PHE or NHS England , having some say in the purchase of this equipment. AFAIK this isn't correct - DHSC took total ownership of procurement :

Now this is "a bloke told me" but apparently, their idea of procurement is to buy a load of stuff and leave it outside the doorstep for someone else to distribute.

SCCL sourced everything. Very little to this day , is coming from the local businesses that "did the right thing" and invested in PPE production facilities, they are selling it all overseas or giving it away.
